About the City of Sydney Flag

The design of the flag, which is flown from the Town Hall, Sydney, on all Civic Occasions, is identical with that of the shield incorporated in the Coat of Arms of Sydney. The flag incorporates the family arms of the first Viscount Sydney, Captain Phillip, Captain Cook, and Thomas Hughes, and a ship in the bottom centre, indicative of a shipping port in the Golden South.
