Governor- General’s Flag
1953 – 2024

The Monarch ’s representative in Australia is the Governor-General. Over the years there has been three versions of the personal flag with the last version being used until the 30th of June 2024.  This flag has now been retired with the introduction of a new flag, 

The original flag of the Governor- General of the Commonwealth of Australia was introduced in 1902. Over the years the flag has changed with the most notable change in 1930. The notification was made in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No56 of 16 July 1936 p 1297. The flag was to be the same uniformity as other dominions.

In 1953 the flag had the Royal Crest changed to include the St Edwards Crown with a lion statant guardant also crowned with the words “Commonwealth of Australia” in dark blue letters on a gold scroll below the Crest on a dark blue field. The ratio of the flag is 2:1.
