The Red Ensign Pre 1801

Between the years 1788 and 1801) this was the official merchant flag of Australia. All types of vessels engaged in commercial activities or used for private purposes were priviged to wear (fly) this ensign. It features the Cross of St. George, patron saint of England and St. Andrew, patron Saint of Scotland. Some naval vessals including H. M. S. Endeavour , under the command of Captain Cook used this flag.
