Australia proclaimed the Ascension of King Charles III, King of Australia
It is customary for the accession of the new monarch to be publicly proclaimed by the Governor General. On Sunday 11 September 2022 the Federal Executive Council including the Governor General , held a meeting at Government House regarding the ascension. The Federal Executive Council is made up of ministers of government which performs functions similar to that of the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.
Later in the day a ceremony was held at the forecourt of Parliament in Canberra. The Governor General David John Hurley, AC, DSC, FTSE on behalf of the Federal Executive Council made the proclamation that “His Majesty The King, Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Australia and his other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth ”. This announcement formally allow Australia to recognise the role under the constitution.
In attendance was the Prime Minister Hon. Anthony Albanese MP, Opposition Leader Hon. Peter Dutton MP, with MPs and Senators from across the political divide to watch the ceremonial proceedings. Hundreds of Australian citizens lined the forecourt and streets around Parliament House.
The official proclamation was led by Australia’s Federation Guard and military band, The ceremony included the National Anthem and a Welcome to Country. After the announcement there was a performance of God Save The King, followed by an Indigenous spiritual dance, and a 21-gun salute.
State Governors made proclamations in ceremonies around the country after the federal event.

The flag has been created for the coronation and consists of a dark blue field divided into four cantons (quarters). The first upper hoist quarter (canton) distinguished by having the Australian National Flag.
The second (canton) consists of the royal cypher behind sits the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star with six points representing the Australian states and the seventh point representing Australia’s federal territories six-pointed Commonwealth Star which represents the Australian states with the seventh point representing the territories. The Royal badge is surrounded by a garland of roses and Australia’s floral emblem, the golden wattle.
The royal cypher of King Charles III, King of Australia sits in the centre. The design was selected by Charles himself from a series of designs prepared by the College of Arms and features the King’s initial “C” intertwined with the letter “R” for Rex ( Latin for King) with “III” denoting Charles III, with a representation of the Tudor Crown above the letters.
The third and fourth cantons defaced with the Coronation emblem a badge designed by Sir Jonathon Pail Ive KBE Hon FR Eng. RDI. The emblem combines the national emblems of the United Kingdom – roses, thistles, daffodils, and shamrocks – to form the St Edwards crown used for coronation.
The design was inspired by King Charles’s love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world.’ Said Sir Jony. The emblem speaks to happy optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new Caroleam era for the United Kingdom. The gentle modesty of these natural forms combines to define an emblem that acknowledges both the joyful and profound importance of this occasion.’

Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III’s official coronation emblem, created by Sir Jony Ive and his creative collective, LoveFrom. Sir Jony is famed for his innovative, sleek designs for Apple, including the iPhone, and his Love From creative collective.
The Coronation emblem, however, is a more traditional image.
It combines the national emblems- roses, thistles, daffodils, and shamrocks – to form the St Edwards crown used for coronation.
The design was inspired by King Charles’s love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world.’ Said Sir Jony. The emblem speaks to happy optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new Caroleam era for the United Kingdom. The gentle modesty of these natural forms combines to define an emblem that acknowledges both the joyful and profound importance of this occasion.’
Sir Jonathon Pail Ive KBE Hon FR Eng RDI a British industrial and product designer, and businessman. Ive was the chief design officer of Apple Inc from 1997 to 2019, He currently serves as Vice Chancellor of the Royal College of Art.
