The Governor’s Standard Victoria
1984 – present
The Governors Standard also referred to as the Governor’s Personal Standard or Governor’s Personal Flag was adopted 18 April 1984. It is based on the blue ensign with Union Jack in the Canton along the hoist on a yellow field replacing blue field with the St Edwards Crown atop the State badge of Victoria showing red stars depicting the Southern Cross.
Since Victoria’s badge already had a crown the difference was made by giving the ensign a gold field. The golden-yellow field was chosen by the then State Governor, Rear-Admiral Sir Brian Murray, and approved by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The gold field represents Victoria’s gold rush past and its promise for a golden future.
