The Australian Standard Flag
2024 – Designer Warren Cardwell, Vexillographer

The flag had been adapted from an old flag used during the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation in 1953. This same flag was then adapted for subsequent tours to Australia to use by the late Queen Elizabeth II as Her Personal Flag for Australia.

The flag consists of the badges of the six States, like as they appear on the Arms of the Commonwealth of Australia and contained in a boarder of ermine.

The flag is charged in the centre with the Tudor Crown over the seven -pointed Or (gold) Commonwealth Star, symbolising a federation of six states, with the seventh point to recognise the two self-governing and other territories.

The New South Wales shield has the Mullet Eight- pointed stars as original on the drawings, The Black Swan of Western Australia is reversed to be not in retreat and to reflect current state flag that was changed in 1953, The White-backed Magpie or Australian Piping Shrike appears as original drawing. The crowns of Victoria and Queensland are St Edwards crown.
